2.10 ON TRACK CONDUCT AND INCIDENTS

At TPG we race hard. At the same time we value fair play and sportsmanship. Please do not be afraid to race but keep in mind that the idea is to replicate real life racing. This means that you should drive as though contact with another car or a wall could damage or destroy an expensive racing car or result in injury or loss of life.

If you make an error during the race: There will be some changes starting with Round 6 for both series.  Starting with Round 6, there will be proactive policing of the races.  The stewards will be reviewing each race and assessing warnings and penalties regardless if an incident was reported or not.  These penalties and warnings will be posted in the Post Race threads when/if some are found for the race.

What does that mean?

At TPG, we want to provide a good competitive environment for all to race.  No one enjoys being unnecessarily bumped off the track, or spun out.  Our goal is to provide the best racing experience for ALL drivers regardless of their abilities.  With that, we are going to become more proactive in reviewing the races and taking some action.

What can I do differently as a driver?

What can I do differently as a driver?

We understand “shuff happens” when racing.  There is a lot of anxiety built up for races and everyone wants to do well.  However, we want to make sure people aren’t ‘having a good race’ at the expense of other drivers.  With that, if you accidently punt or spin out another car you can take it on yourself to take a penalty.  To do this, simply do a pit drive-thru to serve your penalty similar to what happens in real racing.  This must be done within 3 laps of the incident to count and taking your pitstop does NOT count as serving a drive-thru penalty.

DO NOT stop on track and let the other driver regain their position (if it was a fight for position).  This can cause more incidents as other drivers may not be aware you are slowing or stopping.  Serving your own drive-thru penalty will result in NO additional action from the league stewards
. Incidents deemed avoidable by the stewards not accompanied by a drive through will result in a 1 lap penalty/incident in the post race inspection

If you believe you were not at fault or it was a racing incident, you may continue to drive your race.  However, just keep in mind that the stewards may NOT agree with your assessment and you may receive a penalty after the race. Repeated offenses during an event or season may lead to the driver being put on probation for the next round. If the driving is not "cleaned up" the driver will be parked until further notice.

If you believe another driver caused an incident that affected you and the incident was caused by careless or reckless driving on the other driver’s part, you may report the incident by PM to Brian Stewart along with the replay timestamp showing when the incident occurred.

We are not encouraging drivers to report trivial incidents and please know that the stewards may assess a penalty against you if their review causes them to conclude that it was you, in fact, who was at fault. The stewards may also conclude that neither driver was at fault. No penalty will be assessed without a review by a panel of administrators as well as the stewards.

The above applies to racing errors. Drivers found to be deliberately wrecking others will be dealt with severely; up to and including ejection from the league.

Who’s at fault?

Fault is always a tricky thing to establish.  In most cases, the car making the pass is the one who is in control of the situation.  However, when it’s a battle for position, it changes things.  Some suggestions to avoid incidents:

•   If you are being lapped, just gently let off the throttle a little to allow the passer to make a safe pass.  Don’t completely brake or pull off the track; stay to your line and allow the faster car to find a safe time to complete the pass.

•   If you are in the battle for a position, give room.  If the passer is up to the door panel into a corner, don’t try to shut the door and take the apex.  Take a wider line to give room for both cars in the turn.  Let the car with the better exit take the position.

Remember, losing a position is NOT the end of the world.  If you lost it from your own mistake, allowing a safe pass means that you can stay with the car and fight for the position on the next few turns.  If the other driver is just faster, they were going to get by at some point anyway. Smiley

Passers:  You are in control of the situation.  You need to make CLEAN passes.  Dive bombing into corners isn’t always “clean passing”.  If you are passing a lapped car, wait until you know you can make a clean pass.  Keep in mind that while you may be lapping a car, they are still in their own race with other cars around them.  They don’t need to completely slow up or pull over to let you through.  They have their own race they are running and deserve as much of the track as you do.

Being Passed:  Sometimes, you just need to give up the position.  Be smart, don’t fight to hold a position you know you can’t hold.  Don’t create an incident just because of pride.  At the end of the day, this is suppose to be fun.  Smiley

Blocking?

Just like in real life, you are allowed to take a defensive line and force the competition to take the long way around or get in line behind you.  You are allowed to make ONE reactive move.  You are NOT allowed to make more than ONE reactive move.  Blocking will be penalized.

Posting of penalties and warnings:

If you receive a penalty or warning which you disagree with, DO NOT post your protest in public.  The post will be deleted and ignored.  Instead, send a private message to a steward to discuss the incident.

If you believe another driver caused an incident that affected you and the incident was caused by careless or reckless driving on the other driver’s part, you may report the incident by PM to a steward (Gary or Brian) along with the replay timestamp showing when the incident occurred.

2.11 PROTESTS:  Negative comments about other drivers will not be tolerated over race chat, Teamspeak (main channel) or in the forum. Issues with other drivers will be PMed either directly to the driver or to a race steward (see rule #8 below). This will be done in a civil manner and drivers will be required to provide the replay timestamp of when the incident occurred. A MAXIMUM OF ONE WARNING WILL BE ISSUED FOR VIOLATING THIS RULE.

2.12 TRACK CUTTING:
(1) Drivers are required to keep two wheels within the painted white lines and on the tarmac unless special rules are applied to a given track.
